How athletes really succeed

We salivate at how our sports stars are so physically gifted. They are truly athletically gifted. But one thing we don’t realize is how important psychology plays into athletics. But when you come to think of it it makes sense.Because sports is not only about who is physically talented.  When you are taking competition your mind has to come into play. That would be why most of these athletes that we idolize are not just physically gifted. But when you get to know and talk to them you will see that they are also gifted mentally.

Now what I would like to share from my experience as a sports psychologist San Diego is that you can become great in that aspect as well.  One thing you might not have control over your physical skills. But yo can control how tough you are mentally. Sometimes that allows someone who isn’t as talented physically beat out someone who is.We know it is true most of the time. And the thing that makes the inferior ones to succeed is their mental strength.

So what most athletes do now is they have a success coach. Most success coaches are also full time psychologists.  Just like me, I run a San Diegofamily therapist business and part of that includes helping athletes. That is why it makes sense that a therapist who deals with psychological problems can help these athletes.

It is common for struggling athletes to come and seek my help with their depression problems.  A lot of the times that depression was caused by their failures.  So as a depression counseling it has allowed me to implement sports psychology to overcome their depression. All it takes is that one for most of the cases. Because the depression was caused by failure.Remove the failures and you also remove their depression.

So hopefully you see the secret to success isn’t always physical. No, most of the the times, the secret to success is all in the mind. And by improving their mental tougness athletes experience more success.
