Midwifery is a health care profession that helps expectant mothers.They provide prenatal care and, obviously, they are there when the expectant mothers are giving birth. And they also provide postpartum care.Midwives are not nurses but if they choose to, they can be. But they have a governing body so they are being regulated.But what are the wrong things that people think of midwives and midwifery in general?

In general, the misunderstandings happen for those that do homebirths.  In my practice of helping women as a San Diego midwife, homebirths are where people get confused.  People usually think delivering a baby at home is unsafe. But for low risk pregnancy they are safe.  Midwives do have some medical equipment for emergencies.Most complications are avoided because of the method that they deliver babies.

That is where the benefits come in.  As some midwives in San Diego perform their services they do it with a natural delivery.This is the kind of delivery where medicine is not needed or rather, no medicine is administered to help in labor.  No medicine is used to help the pain.But by not using medicines to help the mother during the delivery the birthing can finish at a faster time.Because most of the women do not know that medication will slow down the delivery.So by not administering medicine to the mother the delivery would be faster.

And when the mother decides to undergo water birthing more positive things can be benfited by both the mother and the baby. From doing waterbirth in San Diego in my practice the water eases the delivery.The water relxes the muscles of the mother hence allowing an easy delivery. Plus the baby is birthed in water reducing the shock and stress for the child.

As you can see there are misunderstanding with midwives.But here’s hoping that people would recognize the safety of this method as long as the pregnancy is low-risk.Also, they have a regulating body.And that is the reason why midwives also need to undergo extensive schooling about their chosen profession.They have knowledge of medical procedures that is required in taking care of a pregnant woman.That is why mothers should not be worried about their safety since all necessary medical equipments are with the midwife.This can be a viable choice for women with low-riskpregnancies.
